Foundations of the Christian Faith: The Fall and Promises of a Savior

Image
If you’re a long-time member of our congregation, or if you’re brand new to our church, or even if you just want to get “back to basics…” this Bible study is a Starting Point for learning what God’s Word teaches. October 1 or 4 -  The Fall and Promises of a Savior

Coming This Weekend: A Story of Spiritual Insincerity

Image
You have maybe heard the accusation or perhaps even made it yourself: “He’s so fake!” That charge claims someone’s friendliness or kindness is a sham. Such insincerity bothers us. We would generally rather someone be honest about how they feel about us than be fake. Through a story, Jesus teaches us that God feels the same. God doesn’t want us to simply go through religious motions like some sort of show. He sees right through that. God’s desire is that our repentance would demonstrate sincere sorrow over sin. God wants us to see the grace and forgiveness he has shown us in Christ, and in response, to love him back deeply and sincerely. Want to hear more? See you this weekend: Saturday at 5:15 p.m. • Sunday at 8 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. • Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Congratulations, Avacyn and Vayda!

Image
This morning, we had some amazing news to share! Two of our fantastic students, Avacyn from first grade and Vayda from fifth grade achieved something truly special. They were honored with prestigious awards by Amvets Post 45 Commander Armin Conradt. Each of these remarkable students received first-place awards and checks for $50. Avacyn's award recognizes her outstanding talent in the Amvets coloring contest, which she participated in last year when she was just a kindergartener. On the other hand, Vayda's award celebrates her creativity in the Amvets poster contest, where she submitted her artwork last year as a fourth-grade student. Here's the incredible part: Both Avacyn and Vayda not only secured first place at the local level here in New London but also clinched the top spot at the state level in their respective competitions. Their submissions have now advanced to the national level of the competition. We couldn't be more proud of these two young talents. What an

News from our Call Center Training Facility

Image
To the untrained eye, it looks like we're training first and second-grade students to fill call center positions in a decade or so. In reality, our younger students (second grade and below) have the opportunity to use high-end oral reading fluency software. Reading fluency tests are designed to evaluate oral reading fluency, basic reading skills, and literal comprehension. They serve as a quick and effective tool to identify students who may be at risk of encountering reading challenges, including those associated with dyslexia. These tests provide valuable insights into students' reading abilities, allowing educators to track progress from year to year. To learn more about these tests, visit  www.nwea.org/map-reading-fluency/ .

New Windows are Here!

Image
After we finished upgrading our office computers to Windows 11 a few weeks ago, I got wind of something exciting: talk of another Windows upgrade. But to my surprise, this was not Windows 12 and these weren't computer upgrades at all! Instead, they were upgrades to the actual windows in our campus buildings, like the music room, Tiger Cub Care room, and a few other spots. We're truly grateful for the efforts of our Board of Parish Property committee! It's amazing how a simple upgrade can make such a difference.

Emanuel Lutheran School's Annual Pizza Fundraiser

Image
Who doesn’t like a good pizza? On November 4, teachers, parents, and other volunteers will join in a fun day of pizza-making in the gym to raise funds for Emanuel Lutheran School. Due to the success of Emanuel’s pizza fundraiser in the past, Emanuel has decided to limit the school’s fundraising efforts to two fundraisers this year (pizza & ButterBraid). Information on how the proceeds will be used will be coming soon! For more information on this, please contact Principal Fuerstenau. The fundraiser and pizza-making day is quite a process well organized by a company called PizzaPros from Green Bay. We need many volunteers to make this fundraiser a success! Volunteers are needed on November 4th to assemble pizzas, package orders, and clean up. Students in grades 5-8 may come and help if accompanied by a parent or guardian. The fundraiser requires over 100 volunteers for the day of the event, so please sign up to help if you are available. You can sign up in the school office or via

Coming This Weekend: A Story of Perplexing Generosity

Image
Give a single bag of M&Ms to two four-year-olds and tell them to share. You will witness counting done with accountant-like precision. Each child will get an equal amount of candy because that is fair. Human beings have an incredibly strong sense of fairness. That is why it can be so perplexing when we see how God dispenses blessing and grace. We see people who mock God who are more prosperous than believers. We see people who convert on their deathbeds, and Scripture tells us they obtain the same salvation as someone who has been Christian all his life. How is that fair? Through a simple story, Jesus teaches us a profound truth. We need to stop expecting God to be fair. God is not fair. He does not give us what we deserve, and that’s called mercy. In fact, he gives us what we don’t deserve, and that’s called grace. No, God is not fair. He is breathtakingly generous.  Want to hear more? See you this weekend: Saturday at 5:15 p.m. • Sunday at 8 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. • Monday at 6:30

In God's Orchard Bible Study - Bible Study for Women

Image
This study offers an in-depth women's Bible study on the fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22,23. This book shows how God nurtures these fruits, how the sinful nature impacts them, how Jesus demonstrated them perfectly, and how the gospel helps them blossom and flourish. Each of the nine Bible lessons features application and discussion questions with room to write down thoughts as we work through love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The study will run on Tuesdays, from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m., in the Community Room, from October 3 - November 28. Please call the Emanuel office to register.

Pentecost Season 2023: Tell Us A Story - New Sermon Series on Jesus' Parables

Image
Much of what Jesus has to say to you and me is contained within his parables. Parables are simple little stories that contain profound truths about life and eternity. For the believer, a parable takes a challenging spiritual fact and makes it clear. However, since the parable conveys spiritual truth, for someone without faith, the story remains only that—a story. Therefore, our prayer for this worship series is that Christ would send us his Holy Spirit so that we might receive the peace and power Jesus offers us in his parables. Tell us a story, Jesus! Our worship follows this path: 9•24 – A Story of Perplexing Generosity 10•1 – A Story of Spiritual Insincerity 10•8 – A Story of Reckless Patience 10•15 – A Story of Insane Rejection

Coming This Week: A Church That’s Quick to Forgive

Image
“Pay it forward.” That phrase means that when someone does something for you, instead of paying that person back directly, you pass along kindness to another person instead. Doing something kind for someone else is a way of thanking the person who originally did something kind for you. Today God applies that concept to forgiveness. God forgave our countless sins. He was willing to pay an incomprehensible price—the death of his Son. Obviously, we will never have occasion to do the same for God. We will never have to forgive God because everything he does for us shows perfect love and care. God never wrongs us. But others may do us wrong. Others may cause us pain. And when we are quick to forgive, it is one way we thank God for being so quick to forgive us. This is what God wants in his Church—people who, like him, are quick to forgive. Want to hear more? See you this weekend: Saturday at 5:15 pm, Sunday at 8 am & 10:30 am, or Monday at 6:30 pm.

True Crimes of the Bible - Bible Study for Women

Image
Scandal. Murder. Adultery. Forgiveness. Faith. Hope. It’s all included in the true crimes found in the pages of the Bible. But unlike your favorite true crime show, these dark deeds reveal not only the devastating consequences of sin but also the unrelenting power of God’s grace. Explore some of Scripture’s most shocking tales of corruption, violence, confession, and redemption in this book by Dr. Bruce Becker. From Cain’s fratricide to Paul’s complicity in a public execution, you’ll investigate cases of horrific sin and extravagant grace as you uncover the truth of God’s holiness, justice, mercy, and love. The course will begin Sunday, September 17 at 9:15 am, and run through November 19. Please call the Emanuel office to register.

Coming This Week: A Church Willing to Say Hard Things

Image
Imagine, late one night, you notice the house across the street is on fire. You see no activity inside. You say to yourself, “Pounding on the door in the middle of the night might scare the family. I’m sure they’ll realize what’s going on eventually.” Ridiculous! You would never do that! To let a family sleep while flames surround them would be cruel. Your inaction would make you a killer. The truth is you would pound on their door at 3:00 AM, screaming. You would throw a brick through their front window if that was what it took to warn them. You would not care if it startled the family. This is a matter of life and death! Love compels you to do whatever it takes. God wants the people of his church to be willing to say hard things to people when that is what is necessary to save them from an even worse type of fire. Warning against sin is not easy. It upsets people, even offends them. But saying hard things is the loving thing to do when it is a matter of eternal life and death. Want t
