Prayers for 4th Grade Divine Call

Image
Please keep in your thoughts and prayers Mrs. Amy Lawonn, whom the leadership at Emanuel has Called to serve as our 4th-grade teacher beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. As you may recall, Mrs. Kim Mulder graciously accepted a one-year Call as our 4th-grade teacher for the 2023-2024 school year so that we could use this year to Call for a permanent teacher. This Call is independent of our 1st-grade position, which will be vacant when Mrs. Emily Rodrigue and her husband, Pastor Kenny Rodrigue, head to Burlington, WI to begin his new pastoral ministry following Thanksgiving. Your church and school leaders are working on covering that position with an experienced teacher for the 3.5 weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas break, and we are praying that God would bless us with a mid-year December graduate from MLC who will join us in January and forward.  Please keep both of these efforts in your prayers. If you would like to contact Mrs. Lawonn and encourage her, please stop in the o

Coming This Weekend: A Time for Steadfast Faith

Image
Jesus told his followers, “You will be hated by everyone because of me” (Matthew 10:22). Satan and the world hate Christ and anyone who confesses faith in Christ. So, the time in between Christ’s first and second coming is going to be perilous for believers. A good example is Martin Luther. All that priest wanted was to share the pure gospel with the world. For trying to do that, both political and religious leaders attempted to end his life. The Festival of the Reformation emphasizes the true Church’s unfailing reliance on the Word of God and unflinching testimony to that Word even in the face of harsh persecution. Today we pray that the Lord would keep us steadfast in the faith and give us the peace of knowing that our lives are safe in his hands. Want to hear more? See you this weekend: Saturday at 5:15 p.m. • Sunday at 8 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. • Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Kindergarten Students Sing at St. Joseph Residence

Image
This morning, our kindergarten students brought smiles and joy to the St. Joseph Residence worship service, led by our dedicated Pastor Tiefel. These little ones sang their hearts out, spreading God's love through their innocent voices. We're incredibly proud of our young members, and we believe that their involvement in worship helps nurture their faith. We're grateful for their dedication and the leadership of our kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Jensen and Ms. Behm, in making this special experience possible.

Music & Fun Alert!

Image
Our second-grade students in Mrs. Tiefel's music class are bringing some spooktacular vibes to their fall curriculum! They've been having a blast with their colorful Boomwhackers, creating magical melodies of the "Monster Mash"! What are Boomwhackers, you ask? They're these fantastic, colorful tubes that make music when you tap them! Each tube has its own unique note. It's a super engaging way to introduce kids to the world of music. Under Mrs. Tiefel's guidance, our little musicians are learning not just to play music but also to work together as a team. They're discovering the joy of creating something beautiful together, and it's simply heartwarming. We couldn't be prouder of our talented second graders! Keep an eye out for their future musical adventures.

Vibin' with Patrick: A Caribbean Rhythm Adventure

Image
Imagine bringing the tropical beats of the Caribbean right into your classroom. Well, that's exactly what happened at our school as seventh and eighth-grade students embarked on an exciting musical journey, culminating in a virtual interview with the talented reggae musician Patrick Roach from the sunny shores of Grenada. As part of Mrs. Tiefel's Caribbean music unit, students delved into the vibrant world of reggae, exploring its roots, rhythm, and cultural significance. The highlight of the unit was a special Google Meet session with Patrick, a seasoned reggae artist with roots deeply embedded in the Caribbean music scene. Patrick is a personal friend of our Youth and Family Staff Minister, Jack Vande Gutsche. Jack met Patrick several years ago when Jack was sharing God's word with the people of Grenada. The excitement was palpable as students eagerly fired away questions, getting to know the person behind the music. Patrick generously shared insights into his musical inf

ELS Weekly Update - Week of 10/16/2023

Good afternoon everyone, Hopefully, you were able to bail yourselves out after all that rain and give your cooped-up kids a chance to run around outside! Here is your update for the upcoming week. -Grandparents' Day Grandparents' Day is Friday! Invite your grandparents or special grown-ups to come see what we do at Emanuel! During the half day of school, we will worship at chapel, demonstrate our learning, and perform in church! -Important Dates Link:  emanueltigertalk.blogspot.com/2023/10/important-dates-week-of-10162023.html -School Health Update The number of students staying home sick seems to be dropping off, which is excellent. However, we are about to enter "cold and flu" season with the change in the weather, so please continue to be vigilant, especially with checking temperatures when children are not feeling well. Keeping them home for the full 24-hours fever-free without medication is hugely helpful in limiting the spread of any illnesses. -Pizza Fundraiser

Pentecost Season 2023: The Time In Between - New Sermon Series for the End of Our Church Year

Image
In the great timeline of human history, there are only two ultimately significant points: the first time Christ came to our world to win salvation by his life, death, and resurrection; and the second time Christ will come to consummate his everlasting kingdom. We live in the time in between those two points. It is a time of tension. We know that peace and perfection are ours already because of what Jesus did the first time he came. Yet we do not enjoy a peaceful and perfect existence now already. We will not know such a life until Christ comes again. And so we wait and watch, living in the time in between. As the church year draws to a close, Scripture points us toward the end of time when Christ will come again. Until then Christ teaches us how to live in the time in between. 10-29 Reformation (observed) – A Time for Steadfast Faith 11-5 All Saints’ Day (observed) – A Time to Focus on Future Glory 11-12 Twenty-Fourth Sunday after Pentecost – A Time for Watchfulness 11-19 Twenty-Fifth

Coming This Weekend: A Story of Insane Rejection

Image
There are invitations we might be tempted to reject: an invitation to an event you are not interested in, an invitation to a party that takes place at the same time as something else you want to do. There are other invitations that people would say you’ve lost your mind to reject: an invitation to go on a free tropical vacation, an invitation to go backstage and meet your favorite musical group, or an invitation to the Super Bowl. We get so many invitations. Some we accept; others we reject. Where does God’s invitation to participate in his heavenly banquet rank? Scripture often pictures eternal life as a joyful party, full of friends and family, laughter, and the finest foods. Through a story, Jesus teaches us how insane it would be to reject God’s gracious invitation to that eternal celebration. More, Jesus tells us what we need to get into that best of all banquets. Want to hear more? See you this weekend: Saturday at 5:15 p.m. • Sunday at 8 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. • Monday at 6:30 p.

Coming This Weekend: A Story of Reckless Patience

Image
Patience is a virtue. But can too much patience be a vice? If you are too patient, waiting to see if that pain in your stomach goes away with time, you might make a problem worse. If you are too patient with an incompetent employee, you will lose productivity before the inevitable—his firing—occurs anyway. Too much patience would seem not to be a virtue, but reckless behavior. Yet that is exactly what God demonstrates to a rebellious human race—reckless patience. Through a story, Jesus teaches exactly what God’s patience means for us. Want to hear more? See you this weekend: Saturday at 5:15 p.m. • Sunday at 8 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. • Monday at 6:30 p.m.

A Time for Everything Bible Study

Image
Stewardship is a lifelong management of all the gifts God has given to us. This includes our use of time. So many things in our life compete for our time. We need to take charge of the time we have in order to use it wisely individually, as well as with our brothers and sisters in the church. A Time for Everything will lead us through how to give us a perspective as we prioritize our time to plan for how we give God the glory in all we do. This Bible Study begins on Sunday, October 8, at 9:15 a.m. and meets in the Church Sanctuary.

Weekly Update - Week of 10/2/2023

I pray you are enjoying the beautiful weather God has given us this weekend! Here is your update for the week ahead: -Important Dates for the Week Link: emanueltigertalk.blogspot.com/2023/09/important-dates-week-of-1022023.html -School Health Update As the special message sent out last week stated, health is something to watch right now. Strep throat is still around, which has been showing up with a high fever and throat pain/headache. Stomach viruses seem to have resolved for now, but hand, foot, and mouth disease is still in the building. It is a very contagious virus, so it will likely show up in every classroom, especially the younger grades. Look for a rash on the hands and feet, and possibly sores around or inside of the mouth. Students only need to be kept home if they have a fever or if they are not feeling well enough to attend school.
