ELS Weekly Update - Week of 10/16/2023

Good afternoon everyone,

Hopefully, you were able to bail yourselves out after all that rain and give your cooped-up kids a chance to run around outside! Here is your update for the upcoming week.

-Grandparents' Day
Grandparents' Day is Friday! Invite your grandparents or special grown-ups to come see what we do at Emanuel! During the half day of school, we will worship at chapel, demonstrate our learning, and perform in church!

-School Health Update
The number of students staying home sick seems to be dropping off, which is excellent. However, we are about to enter "cold and flu" season with the change in the weather, so please continue to be vigilant, especially with checking temperatures when children are not feeling well. Keeping them home for the full 24-hours fever-free without medication is hugely helpful in limiting the spread of any illnesses.

-Pizza Fundraiser Volunteers
We are in URGENT need of volunteers for our annual pizza fundraiser! If you have not signed up yet, please follow the link below to assist on November 4. Making the pizzas with your Emanuel family is a BLAST! Proceeds from the fundraiser will be split this year: 70% to the playground fund, 30% to the FORWARD church renovation campaign. If you have any questions, please contact the school office. Oh yeah, and keep selling those pizzas!

-Parent/Teacher Conferences
Clear your calendars! First-quarter mandatory parent/teacher conferences for Kindergarten-8th grade will be held Tuesday, October 31-Thursday, November 2. A sign-up will be sent out via Fast Direct on Monday, October 16. Your classroom teachers will plan to discuss your child's classroom and academic strengths and areas to grow, MAP test scores, and other important topics. If none of those days work for your family, please contact your classroom teacher directly to make alternate plans.

-Weather Closings
As the temperature cools, it's time to start planning for winter weather school closings. Emanuel generally follows the New London School District for weather-related closings; if you see the public schools in New London closed for weather, Emanuel is also closed. You will also receive a Fast Direct message/email/text when we close, and, if you enjoy checking news stations for closings, Emanuel will also be posted on WBAY (www.wbay.com/weather/closings/).

-Scholastic Book Fair Volunteers Needed
We’re excited to announce that our school will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair, which will take place from Oct. 17 to Oct. 20 at Emanuel on the stage. Every purchase at the Fair directly benefits our school! BUT, we need your help to make it a success. Please sign up and lend a hand if you’re available to help even for an hour or two.

-Seal-a-Smile
Seal-A-Smile is rescheduled to October 16th and 17th. Students who are signed up to participate in this program will be seen during the school day either on Monday, October 16th or Tuesday, October 17th.

-Tiger Cub Care
Don’t forget Tiger Cub Care closes at noon on Friday due to the half day of school!

-Message from PreK
We were blessed by our visit to the Police and Fire Stations. A HUGE thank you to all the volunteers at the stations, the parents that chaperoned, and the early childhood staff that made it possible!

-Message from 2nd Grade
Our classroom is alive with living organisms! Feel free to stop by and check them out!

As always, please contact me with any ideas/concerns/questions; have a blessed rest of your weekend!

In Christ,

Bill Fuerstenau, Principal
